The kindness of strangers We are continually humbled by the unexpected kindness of people we have met along the way. For examples:
1. The Hoffman's at shelter cove--Alex met us at the trail, Jeremy guided us to our campsite, this great family of hikers runners skiers and soccer studs gave us fruit, encouragement, great stories and a ride back to the trail.
2. The family we met at bj's restaurant who offered to drive is 1 1/2 hours back to the trail.
3. The lady who brought us quarters for each of us to take a shower, and another kind stranger who gave us shampoo
4. The united pilots who deserve and will get a page of their own
and Debby and Herb Moussa who helped us find the trail near Diamond Lake.
5 all the nice people at rei!
6 Everyone who has supported and sent us nice comments and encouragement along the way. Thank youuuuuuuu everyone!

  1. Where the heck are you on your trek map? Trying to keep up with your progress but admit I'm a bit stymied.

    1. We are now in bend Oregon at a nice little motel. We just left big lake youth camp at mile 2001, and have to miss 80 miles of the trail due to fire. We will rejoin the trail at timberline lodge tomorrow,

  2. You are meeting the most incredible people. I hope you are taking pictures of everyone and will post to the blog. Of course that would mean charging your phones. I think we have a spare 5-lb solar charger lying around. Shall I send it to your next resupply station? Happy hiking!! - Una

It isn't a charging issue but is a reception issue. We post everrrry time we have service, which is practically never , due to Att poor reception in oregon

  3. (jean's sis Carol here) Just had fun catching up on your adventures! Sounds like mosquitoes are more fierce than at the Cabin, Jean! I expect a skill you have not mentioned having developed is the lightening fast'mosquito kill hit.' Something to brag about. You all are fabulous! Not many people can say they have hiked 17 days! And still going. The before-after photos of monster muscles will be impressive! -C
